Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I enroll myself in the Advanced Class or Self Defense Class?

Most people peeking into a martial arts class may think "only people who started out as teens or kids will be successful at this," and they couldn't be further from the truth! Some of our best students got a start later in life, and they have progressed so quickly. It's a fun

activity for young kids, but the pace is much slower since it takes a bit longer for them to grasp the physical aspects of the movements. Older teens and adults often progress quickly because there is a basic element of balance and body awareness that they possess. We highly recommend at least trying out a class or two, because you will likely find:

  • Is it low impact?

Our martial art is a low-impact exercise and great for your core building! There is no such thing as being "too old" to learn our martial art. Where our instruction is highly individualized, we meet our students where they are at that time. If you have physical limitations, it is (almost) always possible to overcome or accommodate them. A good martial artist is energy efficient, meaning they wisely use their energy, balance, and structural stability to complete their movements. We can show you how to defend yourself and execute most moves with minimal effort!

  • Benefits?

    Improved cardio-respiratory fitness

    Reduced fatigue and pain

    Better mood

Reduced risk of falls and injury

    Increased mobility and balance

    Better sleep quality

  • Can it lower strees?

Martial arts training can lower your stress levels! It has been scientifically proven that being physically active reduces stress levels, but have you thought about the benefit of being surrounded by like-minded people who come together to improve individually? Each of us is focused on our own journey, but we're dedicated to helping each other learn and grow. The physical benefits combined with our positive environment provide an excellent opportunity to unplug from daily stress.

  • Does it help with confidence?

As your skill set grows, so will your confidence! Take our Sensei, for example. This martial art style took a shy young teen and helped her grow into the confident adult you see today. When you earn each belt or master each skill, that confidence carries over into other aspects of everyday life. You will have a place of support and encouragement to return to each week, and we all seek to help each other continue building into the best versions of ourselves!

  • What to expect?

There is low pressure here! Everyone is encouraged to learn at their own pace in our style. If you want to take more time to dig into an aspect of your training, we will help you every step of the way. We do have minimum time requirements for each belt, but that is only to be sure you have a full grasp on those concepts before moving on. We don't do tournaments. We don't do trophies. There is no room for egos once you step through our door. Personal growth and safety are the primary focus in everything we do!

  • Commitment?

As long as you adhere to our rules, and principles of behavior, and pay tuition on time, you can come back as many times as you like. Have a seasonal sport or change in work schedule? Growing your family and need to take a break while you get settled? We get it. Life happens! This is why we do month-to-month membership payments. If you want to consistently rank up, continuous membership is a must, but there's no harm in maintaining and building those skills in the meantime!

  • Can the whole family join?

We are family focused! Martial arts is one of the few physical activities that transcend age groups and can be practiced with the whole family.  After all, parents usually aren’t allowed to join Little League teams with their kids.  Since this style can be practiced well into old age, you can have three generations in one family all taking lessons together and practicing at home.

  • What will you learn?

You will learn skills to defend yourself and your loved ones! Have you ever felt uncomfortable in a dark parking lot? Wondered what you would do if you were ever cornered? Worried about your kids being safe? Have you been the victim of an incident and wondered what you could have done differently? We combine resources from multiple styles and have learned from some of the best martial artists in the nation. We also love to partner with active and retired law enforcement and military members who have practiced these skills in real-life situations! Our goal is to share our knowledge to help the members of our community stay safe and situationally aware.
