Chung Do Kwan is a type of Tae Kwon Do that focuses on practical self-defense and individual well-being.
Derived from Shotokan Karate, our style combines balance, stability, and strength to achieve personal health and defensive capabilities.
We are united in mutual friendship to achieve our goals.
Welcome!
In team sports, young kids and teens are taught teamwork and competitive skills. While those things are important, our class offers the ideal atmosphere for them to focus on self improvement. There is no concern about "letting down the team" or competitive pressure. We do not participate in tournaments or competitions.
Forget being held back by other students or being pressured to catch up. Every child learns at a different pace and it is of the utmost importance that we provide them with the support and encouragement they need to meet their goals!
As of now, we only have class once a week. There aren't any extra events to remember or complicated schedules.
Each week, we focus on specific skills and continuously build on them over time. The gradual pace is part of what allows each child to be confident as they move forward. The skills taught in our kids classes are the foundation for our style and will continue to benefit them as they move forward through our school and even long after they've left!
We partner with parents to reinforce our foundation of respect and personal responsibility through effective communication and healthy, firm boundaries. We do this to provide a safe and encouraging environment for each child to learn to the best of their ability! Respect is integral to being a good martial artist, and any negativity, bullying, or excluding behaviors are absolutely not tolerated in the classroom. Students who refuse to adhere to our expectations of respect and kindness may be asked not to return to future classes, and parents have been known to use this as a motivating factor for improving behavior problems in and out of the home.
This type of learning improves coordination, balance, and motor skills greatly! Kids who participate in our classes have been observed to have better coordination and balance in other sports, as well as more physical awareness. The mind and body are closely connected. We feel that when our bodies feel well, our minds feel well, too!

Hello! As a mother and former preschool teacher, I have firsthand knowledge of the best ways to teach and uplift even our youngest students. Helping others grow and achieve personal success is my passion, priority, and reason for teaching"!
I am a Pocatello native who has been practicing Chung Do Kwan for over 16 years. I initially began this style of Tae Kwon Do when I was 12 years old because my little brother was being bullied at school and my mother insisted that I attend class to support and encourage him. Little did any of us realize at that time that I would fall in love with this martial art and later inherit the school from my Sensei.
During my last 16 years, I trained under the school's former owner and lead Sensei, 4th Dan Terry Danzer, under the former school name Pocatello Traditional Tae Kwon Do. Under his tutelage, I ranked up all the way to 2nd Dan black belt, attended several black belt workouts and summits, as well as instructed and trained with hundreds of students between the ages of 4 and 76.
I have witnessed firsthand how Chung Do Kwan has improved not only the health and well being of so many students, but also the safety and confidence of each one. I have so much passion for this style and the importance of self defense, self discipline, and personal improvement!
Welcome, I hope you take the leap and join us!
Thanks for your message!
I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
